Citizen Khodorkovsky

Citizen Khodorkovsky

If you would like to disprove a lot of prejudice against Russia, then it is my most sincere recommendation that you do not watch the documentary by Eric Bergkraut about the man who was once one of the richest men in the world and then ended up in a work camp in Siberia. The film exhibits the Russian brutality and shows how the power of Putin is not to be underestimated. But the film also shows what happens after Putin very surprisingly pardoned Khodorkovsky right before the Winter Olympics. We follow the exile-politicians first step before he one day perhaps returns to Russia. We meet his parents who on the 24 hour long train ride from Moscow to the prison came very clearly sums up the Russian soul. ”In Russia, you either sleep or reach for the axe.”

Monty Python

“Monty Python – The Meaning of Live”

It is a very selected few that invent and define an entire genre, and even fewer that do so over decades. But Monty Python did exactly that. They have become a frame of reference. And for all of us that has not seen the full catalogue or know the names of the participants, but still are in love with their madness, this documentary “Monty Python – The Meaning of Live” is a perfect way to refresh how absolutely brilliant and mad they really are and were. We follow them everywhere; at the very first rehearsals, in the dressing room minutes before the irrevocably last show. But besides following all the preparations for their big end show last year, you also get some surprising and personal interviews. They talk very honestly about disagreements, mutiny and how you manage, after all, to stick together for more than 40 years. So regardless of Life of Brian, the silly walks or the Parrot Sketch, “Monty Python – The Meaning of Live” is both touching and just as great as you might expect from the five elderly comedians.
