This March, CPH:DOX and Normann Copenhagen will once again team up to offer their audience a very comfortable cinematic experience, following last year’s success.

Last spring, the documentary film festival inaugurated its Social Cinema, where 250 spectators could lounge on sofas by the Danish design brand Normann Copenhagen. More than 5000 festival goers in total did so under CPH:DOX 2017!

The Social Cinema was located at Kunsthal Charlottenborg, CPH:DOX’s festival centre, furnished exclusively by Normann Copenhagen, and hosted both magnificent screenings of international documentaries, audiovisual concerts, a 5-day conference, talk shows and many other special events in its unique setting.

And we have good news: the cinema will we back at CPH:DOX 2018, between March 15-25!

11-day Pop-up

The Social Cinema will be a Pop-up during the 11 days of the festival at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. It will be free seating, so make sure to be there in time if you would like a good seat.

The designer sofa cinema is called Social Cinema, because, according to CPH:DOX, it “encourages laid back and social film experiences that (literally) bring the audience closer together”.

If a screening is full, you might end up closed to your neighbour than in a regular cinema. That is what gives the audience a special feeling of a unifying and special experience.

A specially designed CPH:DOX sofa

Expect something new this year – a new modular sofa from Normann Copenhagen called Sum will be your host for the evening. Sum is designed by Simon Legald, and has a lighter feel than what you are used to with other modular sofas. Concurrently, Sum is built in resilient foam, ensuring maximum comfort and support for your back during film screenings.

Sum has been specially made for CPH:DOX’s audience to enjoy at Kunsthal Charlottenborg. During the festival, the audience will also be given the opportunity to win one of the special Sum sofas in a competition – keep an eye on Normann Copenhagen’s social media platforms.

Virtual Reality cinema

The festival’s popular Virtual Reality Cinema will also return to Kunsthal Charlottenborg, where visitors can recline in the Normann Copenhagen Form chair, and festival goers will also be able to enjoy a free art exhibition and a special interactive installation.

Kunsthal Charlottenborg will offer the audience a lot of documentary film screenings, but also audiovisual concerts, talks, parties, special events and industry activities, such as CPH:CONFERENCE. There, you will also find the popular restaurant Apollo by Frederik Bille Brahe. Kunsthal Charlottenborg will be the heart of the festival, where all dedicated festival-goers, guests, industry members and students will pass by during the festival’s 11 days.

With more than 97.500 attendees in 2017 CPH:DOX is one of the world’s biggest documentary film festivals.

From the 15th to the 25th of March 2018, for the fifteenth time, we’ll embark on a documentary crusade of 11 days, showing more than 200 of the best documentary films from around the world, audiovisual concerts, exciting debates, special screenings, events and films for children and a unique in-depth talk programme.

We are looking forward to sharing the programme with you – it will be out here on the 16th of February!
